Advert

To work in a Low secure setting, will be expected to work on both wards at Clee and in exceptional circumstances work on other wards at the Redwoods site. Provide high quality clinical care that is evidence-based, open to monitoring and evaluation, and clinically effective. Working in Low secure setting with mentally disordered offenders

Decisions and Judgements

  • Assess, develop, deliver and evaluate effective programmes of care in conjunction with the multi disciplinary team.
  • Organise time of junior staff and learners day-to-day work tasks and activities within the structure.

Communication and Relationships

  • Promotes and maintains effective relationships with other disciplines/agencies
  • Promotes and maintains effective relationships within the ward team.
  • Promotes and maintains effective relationships with patients
  • Utilise communication skills verbally, written and electronic e.g. preparation and presentation of nursing reports.

Where necessary take a lead role in the management of actual and potential physical aggression using appropriate techniques and interventions

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Enabling our patients with mental health needs to receive a truly integrated & holistic approach to their treatment, regardless of complexity or severity, thanks to the knowledge & expertise of our multidisciplinary clinical teams.

    Specialising in the management & treatment of mental health needs of offenders and those who present a risk to the public, offering bespoke pathways to recovery, within an environment which is safe & focused on rehabilitation & community re-integration, the hospital have established an excellent reputation for providing the highest standards of care.

    You will be a mental health nurse who is flexible, enthusiastic, self-motivated & interested in working within a modern, forward thinking & effective specialist service. You will be a key member of our multi-disciplinary teams, adopting a pro-active & therapeutic approach to care management within a supportive & healing environment.

    You will be professional at all times & conduct your duties with care, consideration & kindness towards others which are in line with our Trust Values.

  • To act as key worker to an individual or group of service users, coordinating all aspects of care in accordance with the Care Programme Approach (CPA).
  • Assessment of patient’s individual care needs.
  • The development of programmes of care.
  • Implementation of agreed programmes of care.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of programmes of care.
  • Ensures compliance with NMC Code of Conduct
  • Measures quality of care by the use of appropriate tools.
  • Implements Mental Health Act (1983) appropriately.
  • Implements local and national policies.
  • Promotes and maintains effective relationships with other disciplines.
  • Promotes and maintains effective relationships within the ward team.
  • Takes charge regularly of shift in ward environment.
  • Acts as primary nurse for Clinical Team embracing multi disciplinary working.
  • Identifies training requirements of self and junior staff.
  • Maintains an up to date level of professional competence.
  • Assess, develops, implements and evaluates ward teaching programmes, in conjunction with responsible nurse.
  • Supervises and organises student nurses and junior staff.
  • Maintains effective multi disciplinary/agency working relationship
  • Takes all possible precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of staff, patients and visitors and the public, by implementing all policies and procedures relating to security and Health and Safety.
  • Maintains safe custody of all patients in accordance with the leave/parole status as defined by the clinical team. This includes the supervision of patients within the clinic, grounds and community.
  • Maintains continuing professional development by engaging in appraisal system and clinical supervision
  • Be prepared to act as clinical supervisor.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Possess first level qualification Part 3 or 13 of the NMC Register
  • A willingness to undertake further training as appropriate to Forensic Mental Health Services
  • Possess or be working towards a relevant teaching and assessing qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983) with particular reference to Part 3
  • Demonstrate an awareness/understanding of forensic mental health legislation framework and relevant national policy
  • Demonstrate an awareness/understanding of the evidence that underpins the care and treatment of mental illness
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of multi disciplinary/inter agency working and the need to work across professional boundaries
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the use of an evidence-based approach to underpin clinical practice and have the ability to illustrate the application of this.
