मौसम की मार पंजाब की फसलों पर पड़ने के आसार हैं। कहा जा रहा है कि बढ़ते औसतन तापमान के चलते साल 2050 तक राज्य में उत्पादन कम हो सकता है। इसकी एक वजह जलवायु परिवर्तन को माना जा रहा है। जानकारों का मानना है कि इस दौरान सबसे ज्यादा मक्का को नुकसान होने की बात कही है। इसके बाद कपास और गेहूं का नंबर है।

हाल ही में पंजाब एग्रिकल्चरल यूनिवर्सिटी के वैज्ञानिकों और कृषि अर्थशास्त्रियों ने स्टडी की थी। स्टडी में पंजाब की पांच अहम फसलों पर जलवायु परिवर्तन का असर की जानकारी जुटाई गई थी। इसके लिए बीते 35 सालों का बारिश और तापमान का डेटा लिया गया था। यह स्टडी भारतीय मौसम विज्ञान विभाग के जर्नल 'मौसम' में प्रकाशित हुई थी।

एक मीडिया रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, शोधकर्ताओं सनी कुमार, बलजिंदर कौर सिधाणा और स्माइली ठाकुर ने बताया, 'हमारे नतीजे इस बात के संकेत देते हैं कि औसतन तापमान के बढ़ने के कारण अधिकांश फसलों में प्रोडक्टिविटी घटती है। कृषि उत्पादन में जलवायु परिवर्तन का गलत प्रभाव किसान समुदाय के लिए खाद्य सुरक्षा में जोखिम के संकेत देता है।'

जानकारों ने अनुमान लगाया है कि मक्का में सबसे ज्यादा 13 फीसदी, कपास में 11 फीसदी और गेहूं-आलू में 5-5 फीसदी का नुकसान हो सकता है। 35 सालों का डेटा बताता है कि धान की खेती के दौरान यानी जून से सितंबर के बीच कुल बारिश में 107 मिमी की गिरावट होगी। वहीं, मक्का के सीजन (मई से अक्टूबर) में यह आंकड़ा 257 मिमी पहुंच गया।

क्लाइमेट से जुड़ा डेटा PAU की पांच अलग-अलग ऑब्जर्वेट्रीज से लिया गया था। इनमें लुधियाना, पटियाला, फरीदकोट, बठिंडा और एसबीएस नगर शामिल है।
