When you want to get your day off to a healthy, delicious start, what do you grab for breakfast? It may seem like the drive-thru is your most convenient option, but there’s something even easier that might be sitting in your fridge as we speak: yogurt. More specifically, Greek yogurt (since that’s the best stuff). It’s a great way to get some protein in your diet first thing in the morning, and it won’t leave you feeling heavy or weighed down. And the best part? It’s easy to grab and go even when you’re in a hurry.
However, with so many different Greek yogurt brands out there to choose from, it can be difficult to pinpoint which option is the best. After all, you don’t want to waste your money on less-than-tasty yogurt and let it sit there and go bad in your fridge. So, before you visit the dairy section of your local grocery store, take a look at our ranking of some of the most popular Greek yogurt brands out there. We started with the worst and made our way down to the best, so read until the bottom to find out what you should definitely try. Now let’s get started.
14. Kroger Brand

When it comes to store brands, it’s hard to compete with Kroger’s. They have such a wide array of products that you can pretty much stock your entire kitchen full of Kroger products alone. And Greek yogurt is no exception. But while most of Kroger’s store brand stuff is actually really good, you’re not going to have that kind of luck with the yogurt, unfortunately.
First of all, there’s the texture. Greek yogurt is supposed to be a lot thicker and creamier than the other plain stuff, but you wouldn’t know that if you were just to look at Kroger’s Greek yogurt. It’s quite thin, and it almost has a watery consistency. Then, there’s the flavor. While some Greek yogurt has a nice bite and acidity to it, this stuff just tastes as plain as can be.
When you buy this stuff, you almost definitely have to mix it with some kind of fruit or honey to even make it edible. Even then, it’s not particularly good. If you’re looking for a solid Greek yogurt to stock your fridge with, we don’t think that this is what you’re looking for.
13. Dannon Light + Fit Greek

While you’re in the dairy aisle, you may notice the Dannon Light + Fit Greek Yogurt sitting there, ready to make its way into your cart and go home with you. And because it’s such a familiar brand, that might seem like a good idea. But before you buy several servings of this stuff, take some time to think about if that’s what you really want. Because, sadly, this stuff isn’t much more flavorful than the Kroger brand.
It too is lacking that acidity that you expect to find in a good Greek yogurt, and it’s just overall kind of lackluster. There are some good flavors in the bunch, like strawberry cheesecake and toasted coconut vanilla, but those flavors alone aren’t enough to make this yogurt worth a purchase. Just because it’s a familiar brand doesn’t make it worth your time or money. If you want quality Greek yogurt, there are much better options out there for you.
12. Activia Greek

If there’s one thing that Activia’s known for, it’s making supposedly "gut-healthy" yogurts. And who doesn’t want to eat something that’s going to make them feel better on a daily basis? If you’re like us, you may even remember those old Jamie Lee Curtis commercials that used to come on TV all the time. And while Activia generally makes pretty tasty yogurt, you’re probably not going to want to try Activia Greek.
Why? Because the texture doesn’t make this snack appealing at all. According to Patrice P. from Influenster, "While this yogurt is very good for you, and effective, I don’t really care for the taste of the yogurt. It has a strange aftertaste. It also tastes a bit chalky to me." And in case you didn’t know, you’re looking for creaminess in a Greek yogurt — not a chalky flavor.
We don’t know if the company’s focus on making a gut-healthy snack is the reason that this stuff is lacking in taste and consistency, but we wish they had spent more time actually making the stuff taste good. If you’re looking for a yogurt to promote gut health, you may want to consider Activia Greek. However, other brands likely offer very similar benefits, so is it worth it for the lack of taste in this brand? We don’t think so.
11. Yoplait Greek 100

Sometimes, you want a snack in the middle of the day, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you want to eat a ton of calories to sate your hunger. So, what should you do? Well, eating Yoplait Greek 100 yogurt cup may seem like a great option. And we’ll admit, this stuff isn’t the worst of the brands you’ll find out there. But is it actually worth your money? We’d argue no.
When LA Mag reviewed this brand of Greek yogurt, they were pretty clear with their disappointment. Their rating of the stuff? "Negative infinity." Ouch — those are some pretty strong words. They also said that they’re "not sure this can legally be called yogurt." But our favorite description was this: "It tasted like if you left a can of Duncan Hines Vanilla frosting out in the sun to ferment for a few days, then thinned it out with some skim milk and an irresponsible amount of Splenda."
Is it tragically sweet? Yes. We may not go as far as the reviewers at LA Mag, but we definitely agree that this stuff is not the best option when you’re looking for Greek yogurt. Branch out and try a new brand if this is the yogurt you’re used to eating.
10. Fage

You may know of Fage as one of the better yogurt brands out there. It definitely seems more appealing than Yoplait or Dannon, at any rate. However, of the nicer Greek yogurts in the dairy aisle, we still don’t think that this one is particularly worthy of your time or money if you’re looking for the best of the best. First of all, you’re definitely going to want to avoid the fat-free stuff, because there’s nothing there that’ll make that snack appealing.
However, even with the yogurt with a higher fat content, you’ll still be missing out in terms of consistency. One reviewer for Good Housekeeping said, "It’s rounded, not too tart, but definitely a bit on the chalky side." A chalky texture can take a tasty yogurt to sad and disappointing fast. While the flavor in this brand is definitely more appealing than most, that lack of a creamy consistency means we’re going to have to pass it up when we see it in the grocery store.
9. The Greek Gods

When it comes to the most Greek-looking packaging, The Greek Gods yogurt probably takes the cake. However, as you know, it’s generally not the best idea to judge a food product just based on the packaging it comes in. It may look good, but that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the best product out there for you. In fact, we’d venture to say that this yogurt just isn’t that great. Mostly, that comes down to the flavor: It’s way, way too sweet for Greek yogurt — and that’s definitely not what you want when you’re buying this product.
If you buy this yogurt, you’ll instantly recognize its grainy texture. Nobody’s looking for a grainy Greek yogurt, as it’s supposed to be creamier than other varieties out there. Add in that extra sweetness that’s just totally unnecessary, and you’ll see why this yogurt brand isn’t at the top of our list.
8. Oikos

Oikos is one of those brands you probably recognize immediately if you spend any length of time in the grocery store dairy aisle. This brand offers so much variety that you probably see what seems like a wall of it when you go to pick out your yogurt. And because of its likely impressive presence in your grocery store, that might lead you to believe it’s one of the best yogurt brands out there. However, we’d have to disagree. While it’s definitely not among the worst, there’s not much about this yogurt that stands out to us and would make us choose it over the others.
When you first open the packaging, you’ll notice that the yogurt doesn’t look particularly appetizing. Eat This, Not That! pointed out this fact in their ranking of Greek yogurt: "[This] yogurt … looks a little watery at first from its collected whey, and honestly, it looks kind of chunky."
That being said, once you take a bite, you’ll realize this stuff isn’t bad. It’s got the tanginess you’re expecting from a Greek yogurt, and it’s not too sweet. It’s not particularly interesting, though, so we think that this is a brand you can have a take-it-or-leave-it attitude about.
7. Voskos

Voskos Greek yogurt is another one of those brands that’s not particularly good or bad — it’s just there. It’s a reasonable choice if it’s all you can find at your local grocery store, but we certainly wouldn’t go out of our way to pick up a container of this stuff. One good thing about the brand is the fact that its yogurt comes in a lot of different flavors, so you can choose whichever ones sound best to you. There are even fruit-on-the-bottom varieties that add a bit of texture to your yogurt. However, when you opt for one of these flavors, you’re going to be getting a yogurt that’s on the sweeter side. If that’s not what you’re looking for, then it’s probably best to pass this brand up.
The consistency of this stuff is generally good, which is a plus if you really like your Greek yogurt to be nice and creamy. But is that enough to convince you to buy it? We’ll leave that decision up to you.
6. Stonyfield Organic

Now we’re getting into some of the most delicious Greek yogurt brands on the market, and Stonyfield Organic is one of them. One thing to love about Stonyfield Organic is the fact that they offer their products in different sizes. Therefore, you can get a larger tub of yogurt instead of just getting the smaller packages, which is great if you’re feeding a family.
But when it comes to taste, Stonyfield Organic still impresses. This yogurt is very light and silky. Of course, some people are going to want a stronger flavor to their Greek yogurt, but if you prefer more of a mild taste, you’re going to love this stuff. That’s why it’s so great for pairing with other foods: If you’re making a spread with other ingredients or topping your grilled meat with some yogurt, this stuff might just fit the bill with you.
And because of that light taste, we also love mixing fruit with Stonyfield Organic yogurt. Got some berries? Add them into your morning yogurt, and you’re off to a great start. Top it all off with a drizzle of honey if you want to go the extra mile.
5. Chobani

Chobani is another super-recognizable brand, and for good reason: This stuff is actually really tasty. According to the company’s website, Chobani is "America’s number one Greek yogurt." We don’t know exactly what that means, but it is true that Chobani is somewhat ubiquitous in grocery stores across the nation — it should be easy to find this stuff no matter where you’re shopping.
By all counts, Chobani makes a solid yogurt. Good Housekeeping asked taste-testers to rate a selection of different yogurts, and one reviewer had this to say about the brand’s plain Greek yogurt: "Buttery … but good buttery." We couldn’t agree more: The texture of this yogurt is out of this world.
However, that same reviewer also said this yogurt is "just a little too tart, almost like sour cream." We like a nice, tart yogurt, but we know that it’s not the ideal flavor for anyone, which is why Chobani didn’t quite make it to the top of the list.
4. Wallaby Organic

Ever heard of Aussie-style yogurt? If not, it’s time to check out Wallaby Organic. Before we say anything else about this brand, you’ve got to appreciate its packaging: We love the cute cartoon wallabies gracing these yogurt containers, and it just makes us happy having them in our fridge.
But enough about appearances: Wallaby Organic is actually really tasty as well. The first thing you should know about this yogurt is that it’s extra thick. While some Greek yogurts on this list are too thin and watery for our liking, you’re not going to have the same problem with this brand. In fact, this stuff is so rich that you might not eat as large a portion as you would if you were eating a different brand of Greek yogurt.
The actual taste of this yogurt is great as well. You’re going to get quite a bit of tang, but not so much that it’s offensive or jarring. Overall, it’s exceptionally well-balanced, which is why we keep going back for more.
3. Tillamook

You might know about the brand Tillamook because of their cheese or their ice cream, both of which are super popular. However, did you know that this brand makes Greek yogurt as well? It’s true, and you’re going to want to give it a try. We love that this stuff features such amazing flavor combinations. Where else are you going to try a mixture of northwest raspberry and blackberry or Oregon blueberry and vanilla yogurt? The Oregon marionberry is out of this world, and you can’t go wrong with the Washington raspberry. And while the flavor isn’t particularly tangy, the flavors are so perfect that you won’t even miss it.
You likely already associate Tillamook with super creamy and smooth dairy products, and that’s just what you can expect from their yogurt as well. This stuff will be on our grocery lists whenever we need to pick up some dairy. If you’re curious about Tillamook products, you should give it a try, too.
2. Noosa

If you’ve ever tried Noosa yogurt, you know it’s one of the most delicious yogurt brands out there. However, they don’t just sell Greek yogurt, so if you haven’t yet tasted the Greek stuff yet, it’s definitely worth a try. Be warned: You’re definitely going to get a strongly tangy, acidic flavor from this brand of yogurt, but it’s not so tangy that you’ll wrinkle your nose when you eat it. That’s because that tanginess is balanced well with the perfect amount of sweetness too. Some people prefer to add a little sugar to the mix to make it even more sweet, but we think it’s perfect just the way it is.
The real benefit to choosing this brand of yogurt, though, is the consistency. With an unbelievably smooth texture, you’re not going to get any graininess or lumps when you try Noosa Greek yogurt. And if you love the company’s other products, why wouldn’t you give this one a try?
1. Nounós Creamery

If you’re looking for a Greek yogurt that makes all your mornings feel like a luxurious event, then you’re going to want to check out Nounós Creamery. This stuff is seriously delicious, and we could easily eat it every day. Before you even start digging in, you’re going to love the classy glass pots the yogurt comes in. Not only do they feel just a little bit fancy, but they’re something that you can keep and use for other purposes once you’re done with your snack.
But it’s not just the packaging we love — the yogurt itself is amazing. There are several different flavors to choose from, and the newest addition to the lineup, the orange blossom honey, is our favorite. However, you can’t go wrong with the peach passionfruit, black & blueberry, or strawberry vanilla either. The fruity, jelly-like sweet ingredients are at the bottom of the cup, and you can either mix it into the rest of the yogurt or just scoop it up as you get to the bottom.
This stuff is both surprisingly tangy and somehow still really sweet, and with the especially creamy consistency, it makes total sense that Nounós ended up in our number one spot.
